Fandom clash (some spoilers, in the comments)

Wow. This is confusing.
I have three of my fandoms clashing viciously inside my head:

-Pirates of the Caribbean, but also its sister dimension, the world of The Legend of the Red Wyrm and The Siren's Yearning. Which, by the way, is a playground of imagination created by me and expanded by Ella in which the alter-egos of (or more like characters based on) several Finnish metal musicians plus our circle of friends happily roam the seven seas.
Should really start writing The Siren's Yearning some day as well and just stop worrying about historical accuracy and whatnot. Bloody perfectionism.

-Buffyverse, as I've recently re-watched some of the old episodes of Buffy and Angel and it made me realize once again why I loved it so much. Well, the early seasons at least, as it started to go pretty weird after Buffy's fourth season and I'm still bitter about how Angel ended. :p

-Naturally enough, I suppose, Harry Potter.
I've stayed out of the fandom for pretty much a whole year now. I went to see The Order of the Phoenix knowing virtually nothing about it beforehand (well, a lot less than about the previous one, anyway) and today I managed to buy The Deathly Hallows completely unspoiled (though as soon as I got home, of course I had to click a link to a picture in hp_art_daily which pretty much spoiled one of the people who will die in the book. Oh well, I suspected he might.)

It's probably not the best time of the month to start reading that book as I'm in quite emotional state. Last night I got teary-eyed when I read Buffy's final speech in the season five final episode, The Gift.
And now I started crying after only reading the William Penn quote in the introduction of the book. The first death left me quite unshaken, though. Probably because I expected it to be someone else. Or maybe because nothing can beat the shock-factor of The Half-Blood Prince's ending (I cried for hours even though I knew what was going to happen).
It's been quite painful to read so far, though. These last books are definetely not for the kiddies anymore. Death, torture, psychological manipulation, betrayal, corruption, loss, oppressing atmosphere, nazi allegories... And increasing amount of innuendo. :p

Hmm, I wonder what kind of dreams will I have after watching a couple of Buffy fanvideos, listening to At Wit's End on repeat and reading several chapters of TDH more. :p

At Wit's End is my favourite track from the album also and somehow I'm not surprised that you've been listening it in repeat. Done that myself. I just finished Deathly Hallows today, but it did not affect me at all. Great book, but somehow not the best. Don't know, guess I'm too reasonable for a change.

Off topic: you're coming to the Natuvissyset's gig at Tavastia in September? ;)

Yeah... I don't think it's the best one either. But maybe it's just the "last episode in the series curse" or something. You have to tie all the loose ends, sometimes at the expense of the flow of the story.
Reading it has been quite surreal experience. It's Potter but it's different. Sometimes I've wondered if it's really just very well-written fanfiction, if you know what I mean.
But it has made me laugh and cry and bite my lip. The Grimmauld Place scene... Whew. That was rough.
But well, maybe it's just me being hormonal. ;p

And of course I'm coming to Tavastia, how could I miss the gig of such a wonderful and illustrious cover band? ;)

The book does have it's moments, but in the end I felt like there was too much happening and too many lucky coincidences. Ah well, I'm trying to convince myself that it is still a children's book and so forth Rowling can be a bit idealistic.

And would you mind if I joined you in the Tavastia gig? Otherwise I'm going there alone (none of my friends here in Helsinki are fans) and I'm kind of dreading that. And it would be fun to see you, at last. :)

You're right. One of my first thoughts about the book was that it will be a downright impossible task to film it because it would make no sense at all (ah well, no one who hasn't read Order of the Phoenix wouldn't have a clue about what's going on in the film either).
As I said, final episode curse, quite like with AWE.
Too much stuff going on, too little of it properly explained. Plus some unnecessary deaths (I knew JK would kill Remus, that was in the cards, but making his and Dora's infant son an orphan was totally evil), great wasted characters (Ginny?) and really strange "X amount of years later" epilogues with ill-named offspring (I have to admit that the kid of Ted Lupin and Victoire Weasley would be a really interesting mix, though :p).
But I still liked this better than AWE, though. ;p

Ah, anyway... Of course I don't mind! :) There'll be quite a gathering of fans from the forum, even some foreign ones, so no need to be afraid of having to be there alone. And it would be great to finally meet, indeed. :)

It seems like in Rowlings world children are either orphans or living in a nuclear family, and that family is either bad or good. I found that epilogue somewhat disappointing, but you're right, it still has better ending than AWE. ;)

But I'll be seeing you (and whole bunch of others) in September! :)
